Here’s the first piece for a new series of mashup cartoon pieces called Groovy Flipside. It’s all about creating mashups of all the great American pop culture icons from my childhood. As every other kid of my generation, I grew up watching Hanna-Barbera & Warner cartoons, Bonanza, The Munsters, Bewitched, Charlie’s Angels, Space 1999 shows… Jonesin’ for Marvel comics… playing with Mego figures… collecting Star Wars trading cards… It’s fun to play around with them and take them to the max, make them feel sexy and cool!

For these series, I’m working in two levels of graphics: first, the classical pencil and ink figure drawing; second, cartoons backgrounds and very simple and bold designs.

With this piece, it’s been fun to play around with the iconic and sexy Princess Leia from Star Wars, placing her in a roll of a powerful woman who’s fighting the Space Invaders from the 70’s & 80’s Arcade culture. And boy! She really beats the score!
